Gerald & Rosie: 80 years young

A little less than a year ago we had the privilege of meeting two of the most beautiful people in the world. Gerald and Rosie Cole have been married for over 57 years and are just as committed and in love as they were the day they said, "I do."

When Justin and I went to Louisiana to meet them and tell their story, we had been married only a few months. We didn't realize that we would be meeting two people who would challenge us in every aspect of our lives, and would give us a picture of what we want our marriage to look like as we grow older. We were honored to learn from these amazing individuals and cannot thank them enough for sharing their lives and hearts with us for a weekend.

We started thinking about Gerald and Rosie recently and wanted to post their story in time for the Christmas holiday. Rosie's rendition of "O Holy Night" is one of the best around, and the fact that their whole lives have been centered around the true meaning of Christmas, made now seem like the ideal time to share these two precious people with you.

Thank you Gerald and Rosie for who you are to each other, and who you are to us.
Merry Christmas!

And that quote just about says it all.

Nikon & Canon: Living together in harmonious existence

So for those of you who know us well, or whom we have photographed, you know that Justin shoots Nikon, while I shoot Canon. -- Gasp!... Say it ain't so! The arch rivals shooting side-by-side, in a marriage, no less! Justin and I always get a kick out of the reactions. It's amazing how brand loyalty can spark up such a debate with people, especially in the photography community. Just this week someone contacted us to find out which way to go... Canon or Nikon... and they wanted to know how we decided. Well, the answer to that is simple - It's what our Dad's had... therefore, it's what we had (note: a post on our Dad's is yet to come.)

When it comes to the two brands, you really can't go wrong... it really comes down to what you get used to and what you have available. Granted, Justin and I have some bias and personal opinions for which is more user friendly (we'll talk later), but ultimately, it's a matter of taste. We have found that shooting together... a lot of things fall in line that way. For instance... Justin likes to shoot with zoom lenses while I have fallen in love with prime lenses. Both can deliver beautiful results... it's just a matter of using them in a manner that is going to work best for your style. The more you shoot, the more you figure out your own personal shooting style ... just like the more you work with one piece of equipment, the more comfortable you will be with that brand.

I guess the reason for this blog post, spurned on by the many questions we get about how we work using two different platforms, is to address that it's not the tool in your hand that's the most important thing... it's the tool in your head. The way you see is what is most important. And the brand of the mechanics that allow you to make that vision a reality is secondary.

...Ahem... even though Canon is better! Just kidding Justin. ;)

Lindsey & Brian: Engagement

Lindsey and Brian are getting married in June and we are thrilled to be able to capture their big day. We know it will be a perfect day for beautiful photos with such a laid back couple who are so comfortable around a camera.

We shot these photos in Memphis, although their wedding will be in Nashville. They shared some of their story with us during our shoot... how they met, their beautiful engagement story... they are a lot of fun to work with. They also shared their plans for the next few months - Brian is heading to Washington D.C. for an internship in the Spring, while Lindsey stays in Jackson to finish up school. (For those of you who know Justin and my story, you know we have a soft spot for long distance couples.) Even though the next few months may seem long at times... it'll be here before you know it guys!

We can't wait to share in your big day... but for now... here are some of the highlights from your engagement session. Enjoy! :)

She is stunning!
So romantic...
Did I mention she is stunning?

They are pros!

Love it.

We're looking forward to June!

Rebecca & Josh: Wedding

Rebecca and Josh were married in Jackson, TN. Justin and I have both known and respected Rebecca's parents, Hal and Mary Anne Poe, for some time now... they are teachers at Union University. In fact, Justin's dad and Dr. Poe just published a beautiful book, The Inklings of Oxford! It's definitely worth getting (and I am not just saying this out of bias).

Moving on ... we were honored to be a part of Rebecca and Josh's big day! It was a beautiful day, beautiful wedding, beautiful atmosphere ... just beautiful! Here are a few images from the day to give you a glimpse.

Rebecca wore her mother's wedding dress. Words cannot describe how much I love this!

Mary Anne ... lovely in every way.
Have you ever seen a more fantastic veil! They just don't make them like they used to people.

Father of the bride ... making the rounds.
Favorite!

Rebecca gave Josh a scrapbook from items saved throughout their relationship. So sweet!

She is beautiful!

I love when fathers officiate the ceremony.

I loved their cake idea! So elegant and simple.
Rebecca and Josh worked with the children at their church. The little ones love them!

Dr. Poe reminds Rebecca she's forgotten a little something prior to leaving... the keys.

The end.

Thank you Rebecca and Josh for letting us be a part of your special day!
